The car was bodied by Figoni & Falaschi to a commission from Mr Fayolle, the first owner, also known as the “Zipper King”. For this reason, there is a striking string of horizontal chrome strips above the cyclops headlight. 110103 is the only car in the world with a zipper on the hood!
The car was first shown to the public one year after its completion at the 1949 Paris Salon.
Nothing further is known of the car’s subsequent early history in France or when or how it came to the USA. In the late-1950s, 110103 resurfaced in the Los Angeles area and in March 1960 was acquired by Mr Lindley Locke. From 1964, it remained in storage for the next 47 years. Betty, the widow of Mr Locke, started a restoration in 2011, but was unable to complete the task. In 2015, she decided to sell the car.
In the summer 2015, the car went back to Europe to Robert Kudela, and a real restoration was started to achieve a maximum of originality. The car is numbers-matching and retains more than 95% of both its original wood and sheet metal. The original screws were retained, cleaned and re-used in the restoration. The plexiglass roof is the original piece, cleaned and restored with great effort.
