The ‘Junior Forty’ pedal car was made by Austin between 1950 and 1971, with over 32,000 being produced.
A special factory was set up in South Wales to make pedal cars and to provide work for former coal miners. The cars were modelled on the Austin A40 Devon, and included features such as working headlights, battery-powered horn and opening bonnet and boot lids.
The price in 1950 was £33.
It’s currently on display at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, UK, as part of its Motoring in Miniature – the Toys of Your Childhood exhibition, showcasing more than 800 pedal cars and toy cars.
