The new De Tomaso P72 is a roadgoing supercar tribute to the legendary De Tomaso P70 designed by Peter Brock and launched in 1970.
Although it’s based on the carbon fibre monocoque of its stablemate Apollo IE hypercar, the new De Tomaso takes a more grand tourer approach, with a luxurious interior and 5-litre supercharged V8 power, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission.
The engine was developed in collaboration with renowned engineering firm Roush, which was also involved with the V8 in the 2005 Ford GT and the V6 in the 2017 Ford GT. The De Tomaso P72 engine is expected to produce around 700bhp, with over 825Nm of torque even on 91 octane fuel. The powertrain is currently being benchmarked, tested and validated for emissions compliance and durability for U.S. and European markets.
Just 72 examples of the P72 will be built, at an expected price of around €750,000 each.
