On the outside, it looks like a particularly well-restored 1970 Ford Ranger. But under the skin this classic Ford has been given the full Icon 4×4 treatment with all-new running gear, including a 426bhp Ford 5-litre Coyote V8 engine paired to a Ford AOD automatic transmission.
Axles and suspension (four-link at the rear, radius arms at the front) are all new and entirely re-engineered. There’s modern power steering, Brembo brakes and custom designed 18in forged aluminum wheels inspired by the original factory steel rims, complete with vintage hubcaps.
Interior upgrades include a new HVAC system with bespoke chrome aluminium knobs and bezels, Dakota digital gauges and Maharam textiles and specially-made leather to match the original truck’s factory vinyl. However, the customer requested no power windows were installed to keep the period feel.
This is the latest creation from Chatsworth, California-based Icon 4×4, which is also well known for its reimagined Toyota FJs and Ford Broncos as well as its ‘Derelicts’ series of vehicles with all-new running gear but the look of a barn find.
